Prague Airport to the city centre: bus, taxi or private transfer?
Solid Transfers — solid-transfers.com
There is no train to Prague Airport yet, so the only way into town is by road. You have four options: public transport with a change onto the metro, the Airport Express bus to the main railway station, a taxi or ride-hailing app, or a transfer booked in advance. The last one is what we do, but we describe all four honestly below. For some travellers the best choice is a trolleybus ticket that costs a couple of euros.
At a glance
Trolleybus 59 and metro line A: about 35 to 45 minutes to the centre, a 90-minute ticket costs 50 CZK (46 CZK in the app), plus 20 CZK for a large suitcase
Airport Express (AE): about 45 minutes to the main railway station, 200 CZK
Taxi, Uber, Bolt: 25 to 35 minutes, usually around 800 CZK, depending on the app and the time of day
Pre-booked transfer: 25 to 35 minutes, 800 CZK per car for 1 to 3 people, 921 CZK for 4 to 7, price agreed in advance
By public transport
Trolleybus 59 leaves from the terminals and takes just under twenty minutes to Nádraží Veleslavín, where you change to metro line A. From there it is roughly a quarter of an hour to Staroměstská (Old Town) or Můstek (Wenceslas Square). If you are staying in Smíchov or around Anděl, take bus 100 to Zličín and then metro line B instead.
One 90-minute ticket covers the whole journey: 50 CZK on paper or 46 CZK in the PID Lítačka app. You can buy it from a machine, at the public transport counter in the arrivals area, or with a contactless card on board. Paper tickets must be stamped when you board. A suitcase larger than 25 × 45 × 70 cm needs its own 20 CZK ticket. With a backpack this is the cheapest way in and not a slow one. With two big suitcases and children it is less fun: a change, escalators and, at rush hour, a full train.
Airport Express to the main station
The AE bus runs from Terminal 1 straight to Praha hlavní nádraží, the main railway station. It takes about 45 minutes and costs 200 CZK; ordinary public transport tickets are not valid on it. It suits you best if you are continuing by train or staying near the station.
Late at night
The metro does not run between midnight and about half past four. At that time night buses 907 and 910 leave Terminal 2 every half hour and connect with the night trams. After a long flight that takes patience, which is why most people take a car at night.
Taxi, Uber and Bolt
The airport's official taxi service is Uber Airport, which shows you the fare before you confirm. The regular Uber, Bolt and Liftago apps work here too. Since 1 October 2026, metered taxis in Prague are no longer subject to a maximum fare, so check the price first and ask for a receipt at the end. The airport itself puts the usual fare to the centre at around 800 CZK. If someone approaches you outside the terminal offering a ride, perhaps in a jacket that says Official Taxi, it is better to say no.
Pre-booked transfer
This is what we do. You know the price before you book: from the airport to the centre it is 800 CZK in a Mercedes E-Class for one to three passengers and 921 CZK in a V-Class for four to seven, per car and including VAT. We track your flight, so if it is late the driver waits and you pay nothing extra. Waiting is included for 30 minutes after landing, or 60 minutes for flights from outside Schengen, because passport control takes longer. For 100 CZK the driver will meet you inside the arrivals hall with a name sign. More on how the pickup works is on our Airport pickup page.
Which option suits whom
Travelling alone or as a couple, light, in the daytime? Take the trolleybus and metro. Landing late in the evening, with children, several suitcases or four of you? Then the car fare is shared between more people and, above all, there are no changes with all that luggage. Between an app taxi and a pre-booked transfer the price is similar; the difference is that ours is fixed in advance and the driver is there even if your plane circles over Prague for an hour.
From the centre to the airport
In the other direction allow 30 to 45 minutes by car, more at rush hour. Airlines usually recommend being at the airport two hours before departure. For early flights we are happy to leave at four in the morning, and there is no night surcharge. The calculator gives you the price from your address in a few seconds.
