Austrian Christmas markets and Krampus runs
Solid Transfers — solid-transfers.com
From Prague, Austria's Christmas markets are two to three and a half hours away — Linz, Vienna and Salzburg all work as a day trip. We pick you up at your hotel in the morning, the driver waits, and you are back in Prague in the evening.
Krampus runs
In Alpine folklore, Krampus is the horned, fur-clad companion of St Nicholas, with a carved wooden mask. Around 5 December — Krampusnacht — Krampus runs (Krampuslauf) pass through Austrian towns with clanging bells: loud, and a little frightening for the onlookers. In Salzburg, on Saturday 5 December 2026 from 17:30, the Salzburger Falkenpass run winds through the old town from the Festspielhaus via Getreidegasse and Alter Markt. Smaller runs are held in the surrounding villages, each on its own date.
Christmas markets
Vienna — the Christkindlmarkt on Rathausplatz in front of the City Hall runs from 13 November to 26 December 2026, daily from 10:00 to 22:00 (24 December until 18:30). There are more markets at Schönbrunn Palace, on Spittelberg and on Karlsplatz.
Salzburg — the Christkindlmarkt on Domplatz and Residenzplatz runs from 19 November 2026 to 1 January 2027. On Saturday 5 December it combines with the Krampus run.
Linz — markets on the Hauptplatz and in the Volksgarten from 21 November to 24 December 2026. The closest to Prague, two and a half hours away; you can stop in Český Krumlov on the way.
How the day goes
Linz is two and a half hours away, Vienna and Salzburg roughly three and a half. The driver drops you at the markets and waits — up to six hours of waiting is included in the day-trip price. Krampus runs are usually in the evening, so a day with a run is longer; waiting beyond six hours is charged at a rate we agree with you in advance.
What it costs
Outbound fare in the E-Class estate (up to 3 passengers) / V-Class (up to 7 passengers), VAT included:
