Prague – Linz

We drive both ways: Prague → Linz and Linz → Prague. Two and a half hours through South Bohemia to Upper Austria — meetings, concerts and connections to Alpine routes.

The route in numbers

Distance — approximately 240 km by road

Driving time — approximately 2 hours 30 minutes of driving without stops

Vehicles — Mercedes-Benz E-Class estate (1–3 passengers) or V-Class (up to 7 passengers)

Why by car

The train takes over four hours with a change in České Budějovice. By car it is half that, and Český Krumlov is a short detour from the route if you want a stop.

The route

Along the D3 via Tábor and České Budějovice to the Dolní Dvořiště border crossing and on along the Austrian A7.

And the same in reverse

We drive Linz → Prague just as often as the other way round. Both legs can be booked together, and in between the driver either waits or drives back — whichever works out cheaper.

Tolls and charges

Austria charges a motorway vignette. Tolls outside the Czech Republic are billed separately according to our price list and stated in the booking confirmation. For journeys leaving the Czech Republic, payment of the agreed price in advance is a condition, at the latest 24 hours before pick-up.

What it costs

The price follows our price list, is calculated from the actual road distance and is agreed in advance as a fixed sum — there is no meter. It includes fuel, motorway tolls in the Czech Republic and standard luggage.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class estate — base fare 800 CZK incl. VAT including the first 20 km, 36 CZK per km up to 150 km and 30 CZK per km beyond

Mercedes-Benz V-Class — base fare 921 CZK incl. VAT including the first 20 km, 46 CZK per km up to 150 km and 38 CZK per km beyond

From our price list this route works out at 8 180 CZK incl. VAT in the E-Class estate, 10 321 CZK incl. VAT in the V-Class — one way. The empty return leg is not charged.

The exact amount for your particular pick-up address is worked out by the calculator on the home page, which also allows for current traffic. The full price list is on the Price list page.

Day trip: back the same day

For journeys outside the Czech Republic the return leg is 50 % of the outbound fare, provided you return the same day and the driver waits no more than six hours — on a long-distance run he drives back empty anyway. For longer waiting or a return on another day, the agreed waiting rate applies; we settle it in advance and state it in the booking confirmation. The calculator gives you the price.

Worth seeing in Linz

The Ars Electronica Center calls itself the Museum of the Future and its façade changes colour; inside, Deep Space surrounds you with 3D projection on the wall and floor. The Lentos art museum on the Danube glows at night and looks out over the whole riverfront. The Pöstlingbergbahn is one of the steepest adhesion railways in the world — running since 1898, it climbs to a hilltop pilgrimage church from where Linz lies spread out below. The Linzer Torte is said to be the oldest cake recipe in the world, written down as early as 1653. Linz was European Capital of Culture in 2009, and UNESCO lists it as a City of Media Arts. It is often a stop on the way to Salzburg or the Alpine resorts — both are reached by motorway from here; just mention the stop when booking.

In December: Austrian Christmas markets and Krampus runs — a day trip from Prague, back the same day for half the outbound fare.
