Prague – Krakow

We drive both ways: Prague → Krakow and Krakow → Prague. Just under five hours to one of the most visited cities in Poland — no changes, no night train.

The route in numbers

Distance — approximately 535 km by road

Driving time — approximately 4 hours 45 minutes of driving without stops

Vehicles — Mercedes-Benz E-Class estate (1–3 passengers) or V-Class (up to 7 passengers)

Why by car

Direct connections from Prague to Krakow are poor: the train takes over seven hours with a change, and flying means two airports and check-in for one hour in the air. By car you leave when you want and stop where you need to.

The route

Via Brno and Ostrava to the Bohumín border crossing, then along the Polish A1 and A4. The whole route is motorway.

And the same in reverse

We also drive Krakow → Prague — pick-up at an address, at your hotel or at Kraków Airport. The price is calculated the same way and both legs can be booked together.

Tolls and charges

Poland charges tolls on selected motorway sections. Tolls outside the Czech Republic are billed separately according to our price list and stated in the booking confirmation. For journeys leaving the Czech Republic, payment of the agreed price in advance is a condition, at the latest 24 hours before pick-up.

What it costs

The price follows our price list, is calculated from the actual road distance and is agreed in advance as a fixed sum — there is no meter. It includes fuel, motorway tolls in the Czech Republic and standard luggage.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class estate — base fare 800 CZK incl. VAT including the first 20 km, 36 CZK per km up to 150 km and 30 CZK per km beyond

Mercedes-Benz V-Class — base fare 921 CZK incl. VAT including the first 20 km, 46 CZK per km up to 150 km and 38 CZK per km beyond

From our price list this route works out at 17 030 CZK incl. VAT in the E-Class estate, 21 531 CZK incl. VAT in the V-Class — one way. The empty return leg is not charged.

The exact amount for your particular pick-up address is worked out by the calculator on the home page, which also allows for current traffic. The full price list is on the Price list page.

Day trip: back the same day

For journeys outside the Czech Republic the return leg is 50 % of the outbound fare, provided you return the same day and the driver waits no more than six hours — on a long-distance run he drives back empty anyway. For longer waiting or a return on another day, the agreed waiting rate applies; we settle it in advance and state it in the booking confirmation. The calculator gives you the price.

Worth seeing in Krakow

Rynek Główny is the largest medieval square in Europe — two hundred metres each way, with the Renaissance Cloth Hall in the middle where amber is still sold. From the tower of St Mary's Basilica a trumpeter plays the hejnał every hour and the melody breaks off mid-note, in memory of a trumpeter said to have been struck by an arrow during the Mongol invasion. Wawel was the seat of Polish kings and they are buried in its cathedral. The Kazimierz district, once Jewish Krakow, is now full of cafés and was where Schindler's List was filmed. Half an hour outside the city is the Wieliczka salt mine, a UNESCO site with chapels carved into salt. An hour away is Auschwitz — we drive to the memorial as a separate journey, because the visit takes half a day.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a private transfer from Prague to Krakow?

The price is for the whole car, not per person: 17 030 CZK in a Mercedes E-Class for one to three passengers and 21 531 CZK in a V-Class for up to seven, VAT included. You do not pay for the empty drive back. The only extra is the Polish toll on the motorway between Katowice and Krakow, which we bill separately and list in your booking confirmation. The figure is from central Prague; the calculator works it out for your address.

How long does it take, and can we stop on the way?

The drive itself takes just under five hours. On a journey this long we stop for a break anyway, and any other time you ask. For an extra stop, lunch in Ostrava for instance, use the Stop on the way field when you book and we confirm the price with it in advance.

Why do journeys abroad have to be paid in advance?

For every journey outside the Czech Republic we ask for payment at least 24 hours before pick-up, usually by card online when you book. The driver covers hundreds of kilometres for you and normally drives back empty, so we need to know the trip is definitely on. If your plans change more than 24 hours before, cancellation is free and you get the full amount back.

What documents do we need?

Every passenger, children included, needs a valid passport or national ID card and is responsible for their own documents. Borders inside Schengen are normally crossed without stopping, but random checks do happen. Travellers without EU citizenship need a passport and, where required, a Schengen visa.

Do you have child seats, and will our luggage fit?

Child seats are free: a seat or booster for children from 9 kg; just give the children's ages when you book. We do not have infant carriers yet. How many suitcases fit depends on their size and the number of passengers. List them in your booking and we will tell you in the confirmation whether the E-Class is enough or the V-Class is the better choice.

Can we stop at Auschwitz on the way?

Yes, Oświęcim is close to the route. A visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial takes three to four hours, though, and entry has to be reserved in advance on the memorial's website. The driver waits for you, and the waiting is billed at a rate agreed beforehand. Put the stop in the Stop on the way field when you book.
