We drive both ways: Prague → Leipzig and Leipzig → Prague. Two and a half hours on the D8 via Dresden — trade fairs, concerts and runs to Leipzig/Halle Airport.

Why by car
The train takes over four hours with a change in Dresden. By car it is half that, and you arrive right at the trade fair or concert venue. We also drive night departures to Leipzig/Halle Airport.
The route
Along the D8 via Ústí nad Labem and Dresden, then on the German A14. The whole route is motorway.
And the same in reverse
We drive Leipzig → Prague just as often as the other way round. Both legs can be booked together, and in between the driver either waits or drives back — whichever works out cheaper.
Tolls and charges
Germany does not charge motorway tolls for cars. Tolls outside the Czech Republic are billed separately according to our price list and stated in the booking confirmation. For journeys leaving the Czech Republic, payment of the agreed price in advance is a condition, at the latest 24 hours before pick-up.
What it costs
The price follows our price list, is calculated from the actual road distance and is agreed in advance as a fixed sum — there is no meter. It includes fuel, motorway tolls in the Czech Republic and standard luggage.

Mercedes-Benz V-Class — base fare 921 CZK incl. VAT including the first 20 km, 46 CZK per km up to 150 km and 38 CZK per km beyond
From our price list this route works out at 8 930 CZK incl. VAT in the E-Class estate, 11 271 CZK incl. VAT in the V-Class — one way. The empty return leg is not charged.

Day trip: back the same day
For journeys outside the Czech Republic the return leg is 50 % of the outbound fare, provided you return the same day and the driver waits no more than six hours — on a long-distance run he drives back empty anyway. For longer waiting or a return on another day, the agreed waiting rate applies; we settle it in advance and state it in the booking confirmation. The calculator gives you the price.
Worth seeing in Leipzig
Johann Sebastian Bach was cantor at St Thomas Church for twenty-seven years and is buried there; the Thomanerchor boys' choir he led has existed since 1212 and still sings today. The Monument to the Battle of the Nations is one of the largest monuments in Europe, 91 metres tall, standing where over half a million soldiers clashed in 1813. The Monday demonstrations of 1989, which led to the fall of the Berlin Wall, set out from St Nicholas Church — they began as prayers for peace and grew into marches of hundreds of thousands. Auerbachs Keller is a tavern from 1525 that Goethe immortalised in Faust, and it still serves food. The Plagwitz district is a former industrial quarter turned into studios and cafés. Leipzig is also a trade-fair city — the exhibition grounds are ten minutes' drive from the centre, and Leipzig/Halle Airport, with night cargo and passenger flights, about twenty.
