Prague to Bratislava — illustrative photo

We drive both ways: Prague → Bratislava and Bratislava → Prague. Along the D1 via Brno and Břeclav — motorway all the way, no changes, picked up and set down at the exact address.

The route in numbers

Distance — approximately 330 km by road

Driving time — about 3 hours 30 minutes of driving, without stops

Cars — Mercedes-Benz E-Class estate (1–3 passengers) or V-Class (up to 7 passengers)

Why by car

Trains and coaches work well on this route, but they end at a station. When you are heading to a meeting, a wedding or travelling with bulky luggage, it is the last five kilometres that decide — and with a driver they disappear.

The Slovak motorway vignette

Slovakia charges for its motorways through an electronic vignette. Tolls outside the Czech Republic are billed separately under our price list, so we state them in the booking confirmation rather than surprising you on the invoice. The route can also include a stop in Brno — it sits roughly halfway.

And the same in reverse

The opposite direction is just as usual — Bratislava to Prague, including a pick-up at the airport or in Vienna on the way. The same price list applies.

Tolls and charges

Slovakia charges an electronic motorway vignette. Tolls outside the Czech Republic are billed separately and we state them in the confirmation. For journeys leaving the Czech Republic, payment of the agreed price in advance is a condition of carriage, at the latest 24 hours before pick-up.

What it costs

The price follows our price list, is calculated from the actual road distance and is agreed in advance as a fixed sum — there is no meter. It includes fuel, motorway tolls in the Czech Republic and standard luggage.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class estate — base fare 800 CZK incl. VAT including the first 20 km, 36 CZK per km up to 150 km and 30 CZK per km beyond

Mercedes-Benz V-Class — base fare 921 CZK incl. VAT including the first 20 km, 46 CZK per km up to 150 km and 38 CZK per km beyond

From our price list this route works out at 10 880 CZK incl. VAT in the E-Class estate, 13 741 CZK incl. VAT in the V-Class — one way. The empty return leg is not charged.

The exact amount for your particular pick-up address is worked out by the calculator on the home page, which also allows for current traffic. The full price list is on the Price list page.

Day trip: back the same day

For journeys outside the Czech Republic the return leg is 50 % of the outbound fare, provided you return the same day and the driver waits no more than six hours — on a long-distance run he drives back empty anyway. For longer waiting or a return on another day, the agreed waiting rate applies; we settle it in advance and state it in the booking confirmation. The calculator gives you the price.

Worth seeing in Bratislava

The old town is small and can be walked in a morning. The castle with its four towers stands above it, and from there you can see across the Danube into Austria. Eleven Hungarian monarchs were crowned in St Martin's Cathedral, Maria Theresa among them — which is why a gilded crown, not a cross, sits on its tower.

On the pylon of the SNP bridge, the UFO observation deck hangs almost ninety metres up. Ten kilometres out of town stand the ruins of Devín, above the confluence of the Danube and the Morava; in the Cold War the Iron Curtain ran through here and the castle was off limits.

Bratislava is the only capital in the world bordering two countries — Austria and Hungary are both within sight. In the old town people photograph Čumil, a bronze workman peering out of a manhole, and not far off stands the Blue Church of St Elizabeth, an Art Nouveau building painted blue throughout, roof included.

A fast boat to Vienna runs down the Danube from Bratislava and makes it in under an hour and a half. Above the city stand the Slavín memorial, with the graves of soldiers who fell liberating it in 1945, and the Kamzík tower with its revolving restaurant. Until 1919 the city was called Pressburg and German, Hungarian and Slovak were all spoken in its streets.
