Prague – Ostrava

We drive both ways: Prague → Ostrava and Ostrava → Prague. Over three hours on the D1 and D35 — a long-distance route where it pays to have a car you can work in.

The route in numbers

Distance — approximately 370 km by road

Driving time — approximately 3 hours 15 minutes of driving without stops

Vehicles — Mercedes-Benz E-Class estate (1–3 passengers) or V-Class (up to 7 passengers)

Why by car

The train to Ostrava takes about as long and is comfortable, but it drops you at Svinov or the main station, and from there you still face another transfer. For a meeting in Dolní Vítkovice, at Karolina or in the industrial zone, a car takes you straight there.

The route

Along the D1 to Brno and on via Vyškov and Hranice, or alternatively via the D35 and Olomouc. The driver chooses according to the current traffic — the D1 tends to jam near Humpolec and Brno.

And the same in reverse

We drive Ostrava → Prague just as often as the other way round. Both legs can be booked together, and in between the driver either waits or drives back — whichever works out cheaper.

What it costs

The price follows our price list, is calculated from the actual road distance and is agreed in advance as a fixed sum — there is no meter. It includes fuel, motorway tolls in the Czech Republic and standard luggage.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class estate — base fare 800 CZK incl. VAT including the first 20 km, 36 CZK per km up to 150 km and 30 CZK per km beyond

Mercedes-Benz V-Class — base fare 921 CZK incl. VAT including the first 20 km, 46 CZK per km up to 150 km and 38 CZK per km beyond

From our price list this route works out at 12 080 CZK incl. VAT in the E-Class estate, 15 261 CZK incl. VAT in the V-Class — one way. The empty return leg is not charged.

The exact amount for your particular pick-up address is worked out by the calculator on the home page, which also allows for current traffic. The full price list is on the Price list page.

Day trip: back the same day

If you return on the same day, the return leg is charged at 50 % of the outbound fare — you have the driver for the whole day and waiting is not counted by the hour, it is included. If you return on another day, both legs are charged in full, because the driver drives back empty in the meantime and comes out for you again. The calculator works out both options — just choose when you are coming back.

Worth seeing in Ostrava

Dolní oblast Vítkovice is a former ironworks where you can climb a blast furnace and have a coffee in the Bolt Tower on top of it, with a view over the whole city. The Landek Park mining museum stands above Ostrava's oldest mine, and you ride down into a real shaft. Halda Ema is a smouldering spoil heap that is still well over a hundred degrees inside after decades — in winter the snow melts on it and at night steam rises from it. In its heyday Stodolní Street had more than sixty bars on a single street. In July the Colours of Ostrava festival takes over Dolní oblast, the city is full and accommodation is hard to find — transfers for those dates are booked months ahead.
